Intelligent, resilient, compassionate, generous, brave and straight
forward, these are a few words which describe the women who have
impacted my journey and that of many others. As I thought about the
meaning of “leading by example”, I was proud to recognize these
special women in healthcare, who do just that each day. As a previous
mentee of Jenny Colombo (Vice President, Global Medical Affairs,
Takeda) and Georgette Joyce (Former Sr. Director, IT Strategic
Projects, Takeda), this was the start of several fulfilling relationships
to come. Without fear of judgment, rejection or self-serving agendas,
it was the first time during my professional career, I experienced
women truly lifting other women. The lessons I learned several years
ago are ones in which I carry with me today. During times of
challenge and sacrifice, the guidance offered gave me an alternative
perspective and the fortitude to charge forward. As my relationships
with women such as Jenny and Georgette flourished, my commitment
to paying it forward to others grew as well. My involvement as a
volunteer within mentoring circles, non-profits and other global
women groups, afforded me that opportunity. As I continued to reflect
upon the work of women in healthcare, there are additional notable
women who continue to further the advancement and impact of
people. These remarkable women include, Marie Allen (President,
CTCA Chicago Board), Diana Pacheco (CHRO), Melanie Neal (VP,
Global Services, Baxter) and Angela Deputy (Sr. Director, HR
Business Partner, Walgreens). The unique values each of these women
also share include trust, inclusion and authenticity. These women are
at the forefront of making a positive impact within the healthcare
community and equally important, among women and men around
the globe.
